Office Student Hours

Student hours are set times dedicated to all of you. Most professors call these “office hours” - which I always found too formal and scary!

Why student hours?

Students often think that “office hours” are times when professors should be left alone - which is the total opposite. I’m hoping that by calling them student hours, it might alleviate this misunderstanding.

This means that during these times I’ll be waiting for you to talk to me where you can ask whatever questions you may have.

You can schedule a meeting with me here.

Or just knock on the door and pop in!

ST303 - Linear Models

Lecture format

  • All the slides and reference material will be uploaded to a dedicated module website
  • I will also add them to Moodle.
  • Just like the slides, all the R code will be provided to help you along with your learning.

If you have questions

Please stop me at any point to ask a question or ask me to clarify something. Alternatively, if you’re a shy person (like me!) you can come up and ask me at the end of class!

What we will cover

This modules aims to introduction you to the fundamentals of linear models This course will cover (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Statistical ideas
  • Mathematical models
  • Real data
  • R demonstrations
  • Short activities and questions
  • Case studies

The important skill is knowing how to interpret and evaluate a linear model.

Software

We will be using R and RStudio for this module. Alternatively, if anyone wants to they can use the new Positron IDE.

The departmental server used RStudio, so to keep things consistent, I’ll be sticking with that for this module (although, I highly recommend checking out Positron if you get the chance).

Has anyone not used R or RStudio before

I’ll be running a beginner friendly crash course on R in Week 2 (Friday 4pm)

Does anyone like cats?
